SAVAN Alert Call Cadence

NC SAVAN’s repeat-call rules explain why the PIN matters. Critical-event calls can repeat every 30 minutes for 24 hours until acknowledged. Ordinary unanswered calls recur every two hours during the published 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. period for 24 hours, while email is sent once for an event. Entering the four-digit PIN acknowledges a phone alert and stops repeats. If the PIN is lost, the published remedy is to call the toll-free number and press 0 for operator help.

Keep the source agency, offender identifier, and check time with every saved alert. Those fields separate an Onslow jail entry from a DAC record and make later confirmation with the originating office more reliable.

Confirm Onslow SAVAN Releases

The current Sheriff app and VINELink answer different questions. The app shows the current Onslow jail list and mugshots according to the county FAQ. VINELink can supply a source-agency status and notification. Neither is a county released-person archive. If a name vanishes from the app and an alert arrives, call Booking and request the maintained release disposition to learn whether the event was community release or transfer.

NCDAC has its own released-first search and full historical OPI. Use those tools when the selected SAVAN record belongs to Adult Correction. An Active Probationer/Parolee result can show that prison custody ended while community supervision continues. An Inactive label needs record-level history before it is described as discharge. The notification and offender history strengthen each other when their identity and dates match.

For an Onslow jail record, note the booking identifier and source agency. For a DAC record, note the offender number. Register each applicable entry and never assume one alert covers both. If no alert arrives, check the source agency directly because notification coverage, booking status, and processing can affect the result.

NC SAVAN Release Coverage

North Carolina Statewide Automated Victim Assistance and Notification, or NC SAVAN, uses VINE/VINELink for public custody information and notifications. NCDAC says the system electronically links all North Carolina jails and Adult Correction, including prison, probation, and parole. That broad reach can connect an Onslow County jail episode and a later DAC record, but the entries may use separate identifiers.

NC SAVAN can report source-agency custody changes such as release, escape, capture, and other qualifying events. It does not make the underlying custody decision. The Sheriff, jail, prison, or supervision agency supplies the status. A SAVAN alert therefore records an agency-transmitted change, while the originating office remains the source for final confirmation and any maintained release record.

Search Onslow VINELink Records

Open the direct North Carolina VINELink person search rather than a generic national landing page. Enter the person’s name and use a booking, custody, or offender identifier when the record provides one. Review the agency and identifiers carefully because a county booking and a DAC offender record can appear as separate entries.

1. Select the direct North Carolina person-search interface.
2. Search the person’s name and add an available custody identifier.
3. Compare source agency, record identity, and offender or booking ID.
4. Open the matching record and read the current status supplied by that source.
5. Save any release or custody-change result with the check time.
6. Confirm the event with the Sheriff, NCDAC, or other originating agency.

No purpose-neutral live released-result screen was captured during the research, so an exact status label should not be promised. Official materials support current custody checks and custody-change notifications. The live interface controls the wording and the options available for the selected record.

Register Onslow Release Alerts

Registration begins from the correct person record or through the toll-free phone system. Select the notification method offered for that record. The current official form includes phone, text, and email options, while the live interface determines which methods can be chosen online. Registration is confidential, and the person in custody is not told.

1. Choose notification from the matched person record, or call 1-877-627-2826.
2. Select an offered phone, text, or email method.
3. Create and keep a four-digit PIN for telephone notification.
4. Confirm the contact channel as directed.
5. Enter the PIN when an automated call arrives to acknowledge it.
6. Register separately for each relevant county and DAC offender ID.

If the PIN is forgotten, call the toll-free number and press 0. The official form also supplies email, fax, and mail routes through Victim Support Services. Those alternatives help when online registration is not suitable, but the correct source record and identity remain essential.

Note: Separate county and DAC identifiers require separate registrations even when they concern the same person.

NC SAVAN Records Contact

The NC SAVAN telephone service provides free automated custody information around the clock. Operator assistance is available by pressing 0, with broad language support. Automated notifications are available in English and Spanish. The official contact route is appropriate for status, PIN, and registration questions, not for obtaining the Sheriff’s or DAC’s underlying release record.

The notification form may be emailed to SVC_DAC_victimservices@dac.nc.gov, faxed to 919-715-1256, or mailed to Victim Support Services, 4223 MSC, Raleigh, NC 27699-4223. Use those published routes for registration support. For an Onslow County booking or release disposition, call Sheriff Booking and use the county records portal. For a state admission or release field, use NCDAC’s record route.

Read NC SAVAN Alerts

A release alert means the source agency transmitted a custody change. It does not prove the absence of another hold, transfer, or receiving authority. A person can leave Onslow County Detention Center for NCDAC, another county, USMS, or ICE. In those cases the local status changes, yet custody continues elsewhere.

Save the notification, source agency, offender ID, and time received. A saved alert is useful evidence of the transmitted event, but an official release record or receiving-agency entry provides the clearer disposition. Onslow SAVAN Coverage Limits

SAVAN is broad but not universal. NCDAC says it does not cover local police precinct or lockup records, juvenile facilities, or mental facilities. A person who posts bail or receives recognizance release at the magistrate or arraignment level without being booked may never enter SAVAN custody tracking. A missing result therefore is not proof that no arrest, bond, or release occurred.

Processing lag and identifier mismatch can affect the result. Search the source agency directly when timing is urgent. The Onslow Sheriff app answers current county listing only. NCDAC OPI answers state prison and supervision history. BOP and ICE have separate federal locators, and SAVAN does not replace them.

Separate SAVAN Registry Alerts

North Carolina also uses notification tools around the sex-offender registry, but those alerts are not jail-release alerts. The SBI registry is a supplemental post-custody source only for people legally required to register. Its email service can report movement within one, three, or five miles of a specified North Carolina address, and its telephone page connects some named-person or ZIP movement alerts to SAVAN.

A registry entry does not supply a release date. Not every released person must register, and a registrant can also be incarcerated. Some registry information is self-reported. SBI warns that names and dates of birth are not unique and only fingerprint comparison establishes positive identity. Keep registry movement, jail custody change, and DAC supervision as separate events.

NC SAVAN is most useful when used prospectively. Match the record, register every applicable identifier, retain the PIN, save the alert, and confirm the event with the agency that created it.
