District 3 Confidentiality Limits
Public verification has a firm boundary. OPI can show the official public status and history, and the district directory can route an Onslow inquiry, but detailed supervision conditions and the officer’s full case material may be confidential. Ask the agency to confirm the public status and correct office rather than expecting unrestricted file access. If OPI shows Inactive, review the dates before calling it discharge. If it shows Active Probationer/Parolee, the public fact is an open community case even though the underlying path may be probation, parole, or PRS.
District 3 Office Directory
The official Community Supervision directory is the routing source for an Onslow County supervision record.

The captured directory screen supports office routing after the public OPI record and offender identity have been matched.
Onslow Supervision Alert Records
NC SAVAN also links Adult Correction, including probation and parole information supplied by the source system. Register with the relevant DAC offender ID and keep the four-digit PIN for phone alerts. A notification records a transmitted change, not the complete case file. If the alert and OPI status appear inconsistent, note the check times and ask Community Supervision which public status is current.
Completion should be described only when the history supports it. An inactive label may follow discharge, but it can also require review of the dates and underlying events. A move through the Interstate Compact is not completion, and an absconder status signals an active concern rather than a closed case. District 3 routing and the official history resolve those differences.
For a person who came from state prison, compare the prison release date with the start of community status. For probation, compare the OPI entry with the Onslow judgment. This keeps a court community sentence distinct from post-prison supervision.
District 3 Release Supervision
NCDAC Community Supervision, Judicial District 3 serves Onslow County together with Carteret, Craven, Pamlico, and Pitt counties. It is not a detention center. Its role begins or continues in the community after a court orders probation or after an eligible person leaves state prison on parole or post-release supervision. The public record starts with NCDAC Offender Public Information, while the district directory routes office contact.
Probation is imposed by a court as a community sentence, sometimes after a custodial part. Parole is discretionary release that now mainly concerns cases governed by older law or the categories that remain eligible. Post-release supervision, or PRS, is a mandatory community part of covered current-law felony sentences after physical prison release. These paths may share the public label Active Probationer/Parolee even though their legal origins differ.
- Probation
- A court-ordered community sentence.
- Parole
- Discretionary prison release for an eligible case.
- PRS
- Mandatory community supervision after covered felony imprisonment.
- Discharge
- The end of correctional authority over the case.
Verify Onslow Supervision Status
Use NCDAC OPI with status All and the strongest identifiers available. Enter first and last name, try the sounds-like surname choice when useful, and add offender number or birth details to separate similar people. Open the record. A result label alone does not establish the dates, legal path, or whether a later event changed the case.
- Search OPI with status All rather than only Active Inmate.
- Match offender number and identity before reading the status.
- Review incarceration, sentence, release, and supervision history.
- Read Active Probationer/Parolee as an open community case.
- Review dates and history before treating Inactive as completion.
- Use the Community Supervision directory for Onslow office routing.
Official OPI help defines Active Probationer/Parolee as someone currently in the community under DAC supervision. This can affirm that physical prison custody ended, but it does not prove the sentence has fully terminated. Inactive means the person is no longer reported as an active inmate or supervisee. The history is still needed because inactive status is a lifecycle category rather than one specific discharge event.
District 3 Records Contact
The Community Supervision office directory is the official path for local routing. The Onslow Detention Division lists a local Probation number, while NCDAC publishes its headquarters contact. Public status and agency confirmation are reasonable expectations. An officer’s full case file, detailed conditions, and internal supervision information may be confidential.

Have the offender number, full name, date of birth when lawfully available, and the public OPI status ready. Ask which office has routing responsibility and what public confirmation can be provided. Do not assume that an Onslow County residence fixes every case in one office. Interstate Compact supervision, transfers within North Carolina, or record timing can affect the appropriate contact.
Note: The district directory routes offices, while OPI supplies the public status record used for identity matching.
Onslow PRS Release Meaning
Article 84A governs North Carolina post-release supervision. PRS occurs after physical prison release for covered felony terms. Under the state framework, completion ends the sentence, while revocation or absconding can return a person to prison. That makes two dates important: the prison release date and the later supervision completion or discharge event.
| Stage | What the record means |
|---|---|
| Active Inmate | State prison custody continues. |
| Active Probationer/Parolee | The person is in the community under correctional authority. |
| Inactive | No active prison or supervision status, with history needed for the reason. |
| Revocation | A supervision response may return the person to custody. |
Parole differs because the Commission makes discretionary decisions for eligible cases. Probation differs because the court imposes it and a person may never have served a state-prison term. When the goal is to verify a prison release, pair the OPI community status with the incarceration and release history. When the goal is to verify probation, pair the OPI record with the Onslow court judgment.
Onslow Absconder Status Search
NCDAC provides a public Absconder Search using surname and county of supervision. An absconder is a person whose whereabouts or compliance has become an active supervision concern. The label does not mean the person completed supervision. It also is not a release certificate or proof of present physical location.
No separate Onslow County absconder list was located. Use the state search, confirm identity with the offender record, and direct status questions to Community Supervision. A warrant or revocation process can change a community case, but public OPI may not expose every internal action at the same time. Court records can provide a related legal timeline when a case event is public.
Keep the custody question distinct. A person can have left prison, entered PRS, later absconded, and then returned to custody. Each stage has a different record. The OPI history and agency confirmation provide the best way to avoid turning one current label into a claim about the whole sequence.
Interstate Onslow Supervision Records
A person released in North Carolina may be supervised in another state through the Interstate Compact. Likewise, someone living in Onslow County may have a case whose legal origin is elsewhere. Moving across a state line does not establish discharge. NCDAC’s Interstate Compact information path explains the framework, while OPI remains the first public status check.
When another state is involved, record the DAC offender number and the state shown in the available history. Ask the agency which authority can confirm the current public status. Avoid treating a missing local office entry as proof the case ended. The person may have transferred supervision, returned to a sending state, or experienced a reporting delay.
The same rule applies to county and prison records. The Onslow Sheriff owns county-jail release documentation. NCDAC owns the state prison and supervision history. A court record explains the order. Each source should be used for the event it created.
Onslow Reentry After Release
The Jacksonville Onslow Welcome Home Council serves people returning to Onslow County from a local jail or state or federal prison. Help is available before release or after community return. Its documented work includes case management, immediate-needs planning, transportation support, community-resource connections, and substance-treatment connections. These are return and stability services, not supervision status records.

A person may use local reentry support while also reporting to NCDAC Community Supervision. Those roles should not be confused. The Welcome Home Council helps navigate community needs. The supervising agency sets and verifies correctional status. For the broader legal differences and verification workflow, the Onslow County post-release supervision page supplies the countywide view.
Reliable confirmation closes the loop: match the person in OPI, identify whether probation, parole, or PRS best fits the history, route the case through District 3, and confirm any later inactive or revocation event through the official record.
